“Though I teach art and have painted for decades, I have not painted a mural per se,” said Grass Valley artist Fran Ferrell. “My daughter Becky, who is working on the interior design, showed me a large white wall along with dozens of glass fish that she had purchased. We both agreed that it needed to look like it was “under the sea”. We started with a dark blue base, and then I worked on the underwater waves. I don’t normally have a vision, but once I start working with paint, I know what to do. I saw pictures of a subaquatic scene evolving in my mind as I added paint onto the walls. Once the background was complete, my daughter added the “school of fish” and the whole scene came to life! It was a joy to collaborate with her, and I appreciated the opportunity to work in a senior community setting.”
